CELEBRATION OF 200TH BIRTH ANNIVERSARY OF ISHWAR CHANDRA VIDYASAGAR

Malda, 27th November, 19 : To mark the 200th birth anniversary of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar A.B.C. High School celebrated the ‘Vidyasagar Week‘ from November 20 to 26 in a befitting manner. To pay homage to the great educationist, social reformer and the creater of ‘Barnaparichay‘, Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar a cultural function was organised in the school premises on this grand occasion. Preparation for this function had been going on for some days. For this, the school was richly decorated with the pictures of the great person, Vidyasagar, colourful flags, flowers and festoons.The inaugural ceremony was held on 20th November. A large number of students, teachers, ex-students including guardians attended the function. A dias was made Vidyasagar Mancha was packed with students, guardians and enthusiasts. Mr. Samar Roy, the headmaster of the institution, took the chair. The honourable M.L.A. of English Bazar Mr. Swapan Bose was the chief guest. Other guests included the B.D.O. of the Malda Block and Mr. Sandipan Majumder, the Karmadhakshya of the Zila Parishad. Mr. Sajal Kundu and Mrs. Sunita Majhi, eminent social scholars also graced the occasion. The function was started at about 10 A.M. with a patriotic opening song sung by some students in chorus. The notable guests present on the dias delivered their valuable speeches. It was followed by a well-organised cultural programme which included essay competition, exhibition, seminars, recitation, songs, dances, drama, debate, quiz contest, sit and draw competition and instrumental music in which the students took part. The audience broke into claps repeatedly. By reciting a poem Atanu Bose, a student of class-x enthralled the audience. Lastly, a one-act play on the life of Vidyasagar was staged by the students of class-ix. It captured the hearts all the present in the function. The function continued for seven days. On the last day, prizes were distributed among some ex-students, retired teachers and non-teaching staff and the winners. The president in his closing speech mentioned that why we should follow the ideals and teachings of Vidyasagar in our life, and, at last, he declared the function end with a vote of thanks to the attendants.
